Industry Benchmarks show you how your AI visibility stacks up against the market — not just your direct competitors you've manually added, but the broader category landscape across AI platforms.
What Industry Benchmarks Show
Navigate to Benchmarks in your dashboard. The report includes:
Category Average Score — the median Visibility Score for businesses in your category and region. This is your baseline: are you above or below average?
Top 10 Map — the ten most-mentioned businesses in your category across your tracked prompt set. This shows you who the AI considers the authority in your space.
Share of Voice — out of all business mentions across your tracked prompts and category, what percentage belong to you? A business with 20% share of voice is mentioned in 1 of every 5 relevant AI responses.
Platform Distribution — which platforms favor your category? Some industries (healthcare, legal) are more dominant on ChatGPT; others (home services, restaurants) perform better on Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
Setting Realistic Goals
Use the Category Average as your first milestone target. If your score is 28 and the category average is 45, focus on closing that gap before aiming for top-10 status.
Once you're above the category average, shift focus to share of voice. Increasing from 12% to 20% share of voice means your business appears in AI responses more often than 80% of your competitors.
Reading the Top 10 Map
The businesses in the Top 10 are your aspirational benchmarks. Click on any business in the map to see:
- Their estimated Visibility Score range
- Which platforms they dominate
- Their strongest prompt categories
This is a legitimate competitive intelligence source. If the #1 business in your category has a significantly better score, study their online presence: their website schema, their directory coverage, their review velocity.
Benchmarks Over Time
Scope re-runs benchmarks weekly. The trend view shows whether your category is getting more competitive (scores rising across the board) or staying flat. A rising tide means your absolute score can stay the same while your relative rank drops — watch for this and accelerate improvements accordingly.
Using Benchmarks in Client Reports (for Agencies)
If you're managing AI visibility for clients, the Benchmarks report is your most compelling slide. Showing a client they're at 32 vs. a category average of 55 — and that their top competitor is at 74 — makes the value of optimization immediately concrete.

Q: What geographic scope does the benchmark use? A: By default, benchmarks are calculated at the local market level (metro area) for local businesses and nationally for SaaS and e-commerce. You can adjust the geographic scope in Benchmark Settings.
Q: How often is benchmark data updated? A: Core benchmarks update weekly. The Top 10 map updates with each benchmark run and may shift as businesses gain or lose AI visibility.
