Monthly GEO Optimization Checklist

Run through this checklist at the start of each month to maintain and improve your AI visibility. Each action takes 5-30 minutes. The full checklist takes 3-4 hours per month for a single business.

Week 1: Monitor and Measure

Scope Dashboard Review (15 min)

  • [ ] Open Scope and check your AI Visibility Score vs. last month
  • [ ] Check your platform-by-platform breakdown (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity)
  • [ ] Review your competitor scores — did anyone gain or lose ground?
  • [ ] Identify the top 3 prompts where you're missing and your competitors are appearing
  • [ ] Note any score alerts you received since last month

Citation Health Check (20 min)

  • [ ] Log in to Google Business Profile — verify hours, address, phone, and services are current
  • [ ] Check Yelp listing — verify all information is accurate
  • [ ] Check Apple Business Connect — verify hours and photos are up to date
  • [ ] Review any new directory notifications or ownership claims that need attention

Review Monitoring (10 min)

  • [ ] Check Google Reviews for any new reviews since last month
  • [ ] Check Yelp for new reviews
  • [ ] Check any industry-specific platforms (Healthgrades, G2, TripAdvisor, etc.)
  • [ ] Flag any reviews that appear fake or violate platform policies

Week 2: Review Response and Content

Review Responses (20-30 min)

  • [ ] Respond to every positive review received in the last 30 days
  • [ ] Respond to every negative review received in the last 30 days (with empathy, not defensiveness)
  • [ ] Check that response rate is 90%+ on all platforms

Review Requests (15 min)

  • [ ] Identify 10-15 satisfied recent customers to request reviews from
  • [ ] Send review requests via email, text, or in-person (choose the method that works for your business)
  • [ ] Track who was asked (to avoid asking the same person twice)

Content Update (30-60 min)

Choose one of the following to work on this month:

  • [ ] Add 3-5 new FAQ items to your website's FAQ page based on recent customer questions
  • [ ] Update a service page with current pricing, timelines, or outcomes
  • [ ] Write and publish one new guide or blog post for a question customers often ask
  • [ ] Update your Google Business Profile posts (add 2-3 new posts)

Week 3: Technical Optimization

Schema Audit (20-30 min)

  • [ ] Visit your homepage and use Google's Rich Results Test to verify schema is loading correctly
  • [ ] Check one service page for correct FAQPage schema
  • [ ] Verify that any recent website changes haven't broken schema markup
  • [ ] Add FAQPage schema to any service pages that don't have it yet

Citation Expansion (20-30 min)

Choose one citation category to audit this month (rotate each month):

  • Month 1: Google, Yelp, Apple, Bing Places
  • Month 2: Industry-specific directories
  • Month 3: Data aggregators (Data Axle, Neustar)

For the selected category:

  • [ ] Verify all listings are claimed and accurate
  • [ ] Correct any inconsistencies in business name, address, or phone
  • [ ] Add or update missing information (hours, services, photos)

Competitor Research (15 min)

  • [ ] Check what content your top competitor published this month
  • [ ] Run a manual AI query for your category — who appears and how?
  • [ ] Note any new citations or directories your competitor is using that you aren't

Week 4: Planning and Reporting

Monthly Report (20-30 min)

  • [ ] Generate your monthly Scope report
  • [ ] Note your score change (positive or negative) and the reason
  • [ ] Document what you did this month (which actions from the checklist)
  • [ ] Share report with relevant stakeholders or clients

Next Month Planning (15 min)

  • [ ] Which platform had your lowest score? Set as primary optimization focus
  • [ ] Which citation category is next for audit?
  • [ ] Which piece of content will you create or update next month?
  • [ ] Which schema type will you audit next month?
