Reading Your Prompt Results

7 min read

Prompt results are the heart of Scope. Every day, Scope fires your prompt library at ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity and records the full response. Here's how to read and act on what you find.

The Prompt Results View

In your dashboard, navigate to Prompts. You'll see a table with:

  • Prompt — the exact query Scope tested (e.g., "best plumber in Austin")
  • Platform — which AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity)
  • Status — Mentioned / Not Mentioned / Mentioned (Secondary)
  • AI Response — the full text the AI returned, searchable and expandable
  • Date — when this test was run

You can filter by platform, status, category (Discovery / Comparison / Decision), and date range.

The Three Mention Statuses

Mentioned (Primary) — your business appears as the first or main recommendation in the AI's response. This is the highest-value mention. It means you're the AI's top pick for that query.

Mentioned (Secondary) — your business is included in a list but not as the lead recommendation. Still valuable visibility, but there's room to move up.

Not Mentioned — the AI didn't include your business at all. This is where your opportunity lies. Look for patterns: are you not mentioned on a specific platform? For specific prompt types? In specific service categories?

Finding the Gaps That Matter

Not all "Not Mentioned" prompts are equally important. Prioritize by:

  1. High-intent prompts — prompts that signal buying intent ("hire a", "best near me", "who should I use for") matter more than discovery prompts.
  2. High-volume prompt categories — if you're not mentioned in 8 out of 10 "restaurant near me" prompts but mentioned in all "catering" prompts, fix the restaurant gap first.
  3. Platform-specific gaps — if you appear on ChatGPT but not on Perplexity, that's a Perplexity-specific citation or content issue.

Reading AI Responses

Click any result row to expand the full AI response. Read it carefully — it tells you:

  • What language the AI uses to describe your category — adopt this language in your own content
  • Which competitors are being recommended — check their websites and listings for clues about why
  • What attributes the AI mentions (years in business, specific services, certifications, price range) — these are signals of what AI platforms look for

The Response Trend Chart

The trend chart at the top of the Prompts page shows your overall mention rate over the past 30 days. Look for:

  • Upward trends — confirm optimizations are working
  • Sudden drops — investigate platform updates or competitor changes
  • Flat lines — consistent but not improving; look for opportunities in the "Not Mentioned" data

Exporting and Sharing Data

Use the Export button to download prompt results as CSV. This is useful for:

  • Sharing progress with clients (if you're an agency)
  • Comparing before/after an optimization effort
  • Identifying content gaps for your marketing team

Q: How often do prompt results update? A: Scope runs your full prompt library every 24 hours during your scheduled scan window. You can also trigger a manual scan at any time from the dashboard.

Q: Why does the same prompt show different results on different platforms? A: Each AI platform has distinct training data, retrieval mechanisms, and response formatting. It's completely normal to appear on ChatGPT for a prompt but not on Perplexity, and vice versa. Scope's per-platform breakdown helps you target improvements to the specific platform where you're weakest.
